We are pleased to announce Ato Aidoo as an Instructor for the GHBISE Pre-Conference Training.
Profile of Facilitator
Ato is a Wells Engineering professional with over 30 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry.
He attended Accra Polytechnic (now Accra Technical University) pursuing a programme in “A General Course in Engineering”, followed by the “Ordinary Technician Diploma in Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering”.
After a one year stint in the HND course at the Mechanical Engineering Department at KNUST , Kumasi, Ato proceeded on scholarship to study the Russian Language at the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute, Kharkov, Ukraine, and then continued at the Moscow State Academy for Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin in Moscow (now named “Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas”), during the Perestroika era in the Former Soviet Union, completing with a MSc Mechanical Engineering specializing in Machines and Equipment for Oil and Gas Industry (Offshore Oil and Gas Equipment Design, and Drilling Technology Option).
Ato continued his studies at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, earning an MSc in Offshore Engineering (Petroleum Engineering Option), and started his carrier with Allomax Engineering, a Well Engineering Consulting firm, in Aberdeen, Scotland, assigned to BP on the Forties Field in the UK North Sea.
On the BP Forties offshore field platforms, he gained experience in drilling of infill wells, wells workovers, and well interventions including, slickline, coil tubing, wireline, and de-completion and installation of ESP operations. He also worked on the BP Harding project, planning and executing the drilling and delivery of subsea horizontal wells.
Assigned by the Allomax Engineering management he also worked with Talisman Energy (now owned by Repsol), also in the UK North Sea sector. Here, he worked on drilling and completions projects on various North Sea platforms, Jackup drilling rigs, and Semi-Submersible rigs with duties including wellsite engineering, and night, and day drilling supervision.
He was later moved to the Talisman Energy’s office as an Operations Drilling Engineer where he was involved in supporting direction of offshore operations including HPHT, ERD and slimhole wells some of which were drilled underbalanced.
In late 2000, Ato left Talisman Energy to join BP in Algeria (North Africa), as Senior Drilling Engineer on the In Salah Gas & In Amenas Gas Projects as part of the pioneering team that performed the appraisal and development of the fields on these projects.
He moved on to work on the Karachaganak field operated by KPO b.v. in Western Kazakstan with BG-Group (now taken over by Shell), in 2004, as the Senior Project Design Drilling Engineer responsible for Wells Engineering, Planning and Future Projects, as well as daily engineering support to the Wells Construction and Workover teams.
After many years of working on the Karachaganak field, he moved on to work with the Nostrum Oil and Gas Group, a Belgian+Dutch registered company, where he currently works as the Wells Engineering Manager responsible for Drilling, Completions and Workovers, and Well Intervention Operations support.
Ato has varied experience in engineering, operations, and engineering management including onshore, and offshore (shallow and deepwater) operations.
