Address by Dr. Riverson Oppong - Past Section Chair

I am thrilled to address the phenomenal members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers - SPE Ghana Section this day, 31st August 2023 to deliver an account of my stewardship and handover of my position as the Section Chair.

I indeed deem it a great privilege to have been bestowed with the mandate to serve as section chair of this formidable society.

In hindsight, the past 12 months has been an exceptionally busy year imbued with groundbreaking activities. Personally for me, it has been a most eventful period throughout, at times challenging but on the whole a most rewarding experience.

I would like to offer gratitude to my industrious Section Board of Directors and Officers for their unwavering dedication towards the affairs of our society–today I call it a community. Your commitment to work has won my approbations countless times. Special appreciation to the Africa Regional Director - both Past and Present, Wumi Iledare and Oghogho Effiom, C. Dir., respectively.

My profound appreciation also goes to the general membership of the institution, particularly those who served on various committees and sacrificed their time and resources to work for the good of our society.

Anchoring on your support, we have been able to attain incredible feats worthy of mentioning. Spanning from increasing the society membership by a whopping 100 percent from when we took over till today and maintained more than 90 percent membership; organizing the unprecedented SPE GH-BICE to implementing imperative policies such as the SPE Monthly Tech Meeting, the SPE Student Professional Engagement and several Social Intervention Events under SPECare. The icing on the cake is, we also bagged the prestigious 2023 SPE Presidential Outstanding Section Award. Grateful to everyone who contributed to making this a reality.

Hereinafter, I will like to officially announce the end of my tenure as your section chair and hand over the mantle to Sheena Owusu-Ansah. I will be assuming the new role of Section Director (along with Ato Aidoo and Ing. Celestina Yaaba Kissi AMIChemE) where I will continue to render my services wholeheartedly to SPE in that capacity.

I have faith in this new administration and I am of every assurance to believe that they are poised to elevate the society to greater heights. I urge all members to offer their unwavering support to fulfilling the vision of SPE Ghana.

In conclusion, I always encourage the bond of family and an all inclusive environment for SPE members. In view of this, I urge us all to stay united and endeavor to channel our collective efforts towards the progress of our beloved SPE family.
